This started because they are reading The Kite Runner in class. Now they are
interested in seeing a fighter kite or two in action. I may have put that
thought in their head. Alright, its my fault.

Since their school is located at NTC/Liberty Station kite flying there is pretty
much out of the question due to low flying aircraft taking off from Lindberg
Field. I have them setup to do their kite flying at Dusty Rhodes Park along with
a fighter demo if I can set that up.

Originally I was going to do this Friday afternoon after the Visually Impaired
event. Now they need/want to move it to Wed the 29th. It is unlikely that I can
get off then so I am looking for a person or two to fill in. Basically you
should just have to explain a bit about fighters and the difference between the
fighting styles of Americans and the rest of the world (and so whats in The Kite
Runner). Maybe a little troublshooting as they try to fly the kites they built.

If you want to help let me know as soon as possible and I will pass it on and
send you contact info. I still might be able to come along and help too but I
wouldnt count on it.

Complications!

1)Neighborhood House Association Head Start Program is looking for some volunteers to fly kites and help with some kite building at their ‘Male Involvement End Of The Year Activity’. The event is at La Playa II Mission Bay and is close enough that you can easily make it to the end of our meeting afterwards. Don’t have the exact times handy but this is fairly early. 2)At the last meeting there was some talk of an event in Carlsbad with details to follow. No details yet (Dan, Dan?) but this might put a crimp in regular meeting plans. Watch this space!!

Once again the Club has been asked to support the Visually Impaired Field Day. For us this is about flying our kites and letting the kids get a chance to fly a kite. This is pretty much a single line event.  Once again winds are historically light since it takes place in the morning so bring your low wind kites with maybe a stronger wind backup just in case.

We are just one of many activities set up for the kids on this day.

Update from Charlene, Joanne’s daughter, sent April 4:

My Mother, Joanne M’Clary became very ill March 7 and hade to go to the hospital. She passed away yesterday at Sharp Memorial hospital due to advanced COPD and pnumonia. She loved life and fought hard to get well but when it was determined that there was nothing more that could be done she accepted comfort care. She passed away with dignity and grace. She was able to call and say goodbye to her family and said she had a good life and don’t cry for her. She also wanted to say goodbye to all of her email friends but the was no internet available in ICU. There will be a memorial service for her at the kite feild in mission bay on the second saturday in May.
